George Milligan December 4, 2002 8:33 PM Another Joe story - Julie and I went to visit Joe at the College of Charleston for Parents Weekend in the fall of his sophmore year. After lunch on Saturday, the three of us were strolling down Meeting Street. About every half block, a comely young lady passing by would yell "Hi Joe" and wave. After five or six of these incidents, Joe turned to us and, with that sly smile of his, he exclaimed "I own this town!" (I'm sure all of you who knew Joe can perfectly picture this happening) Metaphorically, of course, Joe "owned" everyone he ever met with his guilelessness, compassion, generosity, that incandescent smile, and the ability to see the best in anyone. He was a hell of a guy and I'll miss him terribly. << View Memories |
